Salted ham?

Hello! My question is simple! Have anyone of you, ever tasted a ham, that weren't salted? Why are hams always salted, and what does a ham taste like, before it get's pumped with salt water? (;

You, sir, have stumped me. I don't think I've ever had a swine product that wasn't cured in some fashion.
